Why Diamond Jewellery?

Diamonds have a vivacity, or some call it scintillation, that captures some unexplained aspect of a persons soul. You don't get the same feeling when looking at the brash imitations. Call me a sentimentalist but the sparkle of a diamond and the sparkle in my loved one's eyes both imbue me with happiness, and a desire to be with them.

Diamonds can be worn to show off their own beauty, one with which many would like to be associated. For many this is the use of timeless settings where white claws hold the diamond in a solitaire mount. For this the stone should be significant, sufficient to allow the sparkle to have developed fire. Go to Solitaires for this theme to be expanded.

Diamonds can also be used to give the eye a reference point to assess the colour of other gemstones. This would be as an all round cluster, or as side stones to gems such as Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. At Thomas's we also use diamonds with other gemstones that may be less familiar to you by name, or that you might not associate as being special enough to warrant the use of diamonds. The diamonds help the human eye to have a point of reference against which the beauty of other gems can be appraised.

Diamonds can also be used as accents to develop designs in jewellery. A designer may choose to give emphasis to a particular curve or point, or need t create a focal balance. Diamonds add that sparkle. The use of diamond solitaires ear-studs acts as just such an accent: it brings to a focal point the three elements of the slope of the neck, the complexity of the ear, and balances the sparkle in the eye.

Diamonds can also be used as a status display. Imagine the Imperial Crown without diamonds. Imagine HM the Queen without a splash of scintillation from a brooch encrusted with fine diamonds. Imagine an Oscar evening without diamonds. This year they even extended to shoes!

Diamonds are also a token of enduring love. Given because they possess the ability to last until the end of time. Used in eternity rings to again suggest infinity in that love shall run out at the circles end, and used in a similar context with the line bracelet which captures the wrist in an unending circle of vivacious and enduring love.

The ancients of south Asia, incorporated the mineral kingdom within their religious beliefs and to diamond they ascribed that special property of purity of spirit, a stepping path the Nirvana.

But be aware: Diamonds, like love, must be cherished. They reward their owners and those that behold them being worn with radiance when they are kept clean, but become lack-lustre if allowed to become greasy for they then become dull and uninspiring. Cherish them in wear, for although they are immensely resistant to abrasion, a sharp tap in the wrong direction can, like love, cause the stone to be cleaved asunder.
