Gold, Platinum and Silver Prices 2010

Glory be, prices have slipped in Sterling terms as the pound has gotten a little stronger against the US Dollar. We are currently seeing prices at 95% of their peak. It doesn't hurst if you are sellers, but iut helps just a little for us buying in new jewellery designs.

World wide investors are prepared to put their money into a non-interest bearing "Safe Haven". They protect what they have while prices are stable and profit if prices rise. The prices are having disastrous effects on parts of the jewellery trade. I have friends who ratlle round their jewellery factories and workshops, where once there were twenty staff now there are none. This has meant that time scales for making special orders are staggeringly long - where you might erroneously think that any work was jumped upon. Findings are not as readily available, associated workers - setters and polishers have given up. One silver locket maker just closed up shop making four staff redundant. I'm told the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter - away from the shops - is a ghost town. Coist cutting is the name of the game, and we now have suppliers introducing minimum spends, which means one off orders can no longer be accepted, or must wait in a marshalling line for sufficient orders to build up. These are the consequences of recession and now rampant precious metal inflation.

Now is the time to look out those broken items of jewellery and silverware, together with the jewellery that you haven't worn for a decade and find out what it is worth on the bullion market. If you live near to Skipton you can come and see us Tuesdays - Saturdays and we can make you a cash offer. Please bring proof of identity.

Thomas's are licenced second hand dealers at North Yorksire County Council.

Thomas's consistently pay fair prices for recycling gold, platinum & silver.

To help you judge the prices we pay :

£8.15 per gram for hallmarked 9ct Gold, & £16.80 for 18ct HM Gold,

£26.00 per gram for 950 HM Platinum,

28p per gram for hallmarked Sterling Silver.

Correct on 30th June 2010.

If the metal is not hallmarked we will make individual genuine offers.

Telephone for latest price Tuesday - Saturday 01756 795353 ask for Geoff Thomas.

We are not claiming the highest price paid, just the genuine price for the gold you bring. We pay different prices for each caratage of no hallmarked golds such as 10k and 14kt. We pay cash, you will need to bring proof of identity

Stone set jewellery: We are able to make good payments for precious metals because we sell most of our re-cycled gold straight away, we just could not afford to build stock at the levels we pay out weekly. The stones in much jewellery current have little market interest for recycling. If the jewellery contains significant gemstones we will make individual assessment. However you may be better served by selling through an auction house. Why not bring your items to Thomas's, and we will give you advice, and our Today's price, and then you can make up your own mind, without pressure.
