The Shell cameos on this page go some way to show the great diversity that can be found in modern cameo carvings.
When buying these we selected two classes, the regular Italian 18ct Gold mount for the regular stock that we sell - well regularly. They are reasonably detailed and we were happy when we compared it with our existing stock in 9ct gold mounts to see that it was very competitive - less money, more detail, more gold.
We then browsed through the extra quality selection that was un-mounted. We chose quite a few and felt that we ought to add extra strength to the mounts, so arranged that these would be in double thickness frames - which is far more than double strength.
Finally we allowed ourselves to be shown a selection of what the carvers call "particular" cameos which - as works of art - they would frame as a picture to exhibit on the wall. We selected four of these over thick Neapolitan coffee, and decided that as jewellers we ought to have them in gold mounts, which while adding some additional price was not that drastic against the works of art. These are towards the bottom of the page. They are unrepeatable. They are good prices!
All the 18ct gold is hallmarked in the UK.
